Whispers of the Heart

Listen carefully and the words will speak to you

Winter

A winters Eve

Crystal diamonds dangle on the branches
Dazzling their brilliance through the frigid moonlit sky.

Coated with snow and stiletto edged icicles.
The thin tree twigs elongate tiny tender tentacles
Unblemished in the luminosity of the wintry moon and outlying stars
They glisten and light up the snow cloaked commons like a bridal veil
Wedded to a pale perpetual phantom of the darkness.

The delicate snow splinters as if in a split second
I would vanish within this ice-cold crystal cascade country
I pull up my muff around my face and place my nimble fingers in my pockets
Wishing he was here to share this moonlit moment with me
A warm fire, warm embraces, holding hands, hidden from the storm
His loving warmth to thaw my motionless mind and frozen heart.

Spring

SPRING

Silently coming from within the womb

Nature’s moment of giving birth

Marshmallow clouds against the Cobalt sky

Uncertain if their tears will fall as flakes

Against the mud-grazed grass trying to awake

Or fall as the drops of an Angel’s cry.

A time of renewal for all breathing existence

Out of hibernation the animals appear

Robin pulls a worm loose from within the ground

Bulbs waiting to spread their blossoms wide

Like the purity of many a new June bride

Prepared to birth as the New Year comes around.

Summer

Scent from Above

Those were the days when you could walk out your back door
And smell the perfume of the earth.
I remember my grandmother hanging the
Whites, commenting on their clean scent.
Springtime was her favorite season with the fragrance of
Gardens all around the house opening their soft petals of
Burgundy and crimson,
casting their aroma toward the heavens.

Summer days bring the scent of the earth.
Ocean breezes carry the salt away from the shore as if
Carried on the wings of gulls looking for scraps.
Beaches embedded with the scents of oils as folks bathe in the
sun to gain a bronze skin tone.
BBQ’s emanate the grounds with the smell of grease cooking
on the coals as children wait for their burgers busy
Roasting marshmallows on sticks.

Rebirth is Mother Nature’s most precious scent.
Crisp air crackles through the leaves of beautiful ginger,
cherry and golden colors that now replace the sea greens of
the earth. Apple blossoms flailing to the ground leaving
their scents to the earth.
Fairs filled with spectators and vendors showing their
wares. The smells of apple pie and cotton candy,
French fries and doughboys, and we must not
forget the animal barns.

(revision of the above paragraph follows, then the poem continues)

(*****Tranquility is mother naute's most precious scent.
Crisp air crackles through the leaves of beautiful ginger,
cherry and golden colors that now replace the sea greens of
the earth.  Apple blossoms flailing to the ground leaving
their scents to the earth.
Fairs filled with spectators and vendors showing their
wares.  Smells of apple pie, cotton candy,
French fries and doughboys,
Interrupted by nature's own scents.*****)

Those were the days when you could take a carriage through
the streets of the town on a Sunday afternoon,
Village greens decorated in ruby and gold accented with the
scent of pine as the carolers gather.
Scent of chestnuts roasting and cranberry bread,
Hot cocoa to warm the chill from your soul.
Bells ringing from the village square keeping time with the
rhythm of the horse, Wrapped in the arms of your
sweetheart.

Gods greatest gifts scent from above.

AUTUMN

Gathering

For my children who are my greatest inspiration.

Silently sitting under the tree of dreams
Trying to remember when I was a child
Staring at the snow covered peaks wishing
To be among those who were skiing.
To have the wind in my face while the sun
Shed its warmth over my soul within.
Desperately seeking shelter from the crowd
That hover around when the next page is the
Climax of the best book I have ever read.
Trying not to seem rude when asked how are you,
What are you doing? Can't they see that themselves?
Are people that closed to the work outside?
Trying hard to be the perfect hostess
Gathering with the family and loved ones from afar
Listening to songs of the season and making
The dinner that all would savor and talk about till the
Next time that we all gather. I cook, I clean, I make the
Bread pudding, stuff the turkey and do ALL the dishes.
